I’m not particularly fond of cold weather, but I do admire the fall season for its beauty. Autumn is arguably the prettiest season of all.

This year, mother nature has spoiled us Vancouverites — I just don’t remember having this much sun post-September! Recently I decided to take out my good ol’ Canon Rebel T21 for some photos. Check them out below:

Filthy Pop blog - http://music.kcclaveria.com

A few weeks ago, I wrote about why I blog. In that post, I said — and I quote — “I blog because I want to share my true authentic self to anyone who would bother to listen.”

I also said that combining all my interests in one blog makes sense because doing so better reflect the true me. I still believe what I wrote then, but today I’m announcing that I’m no longer posting about music here.

Long story short, with the past system, I found myself blogging less often.  Most of my blog ideas were related to music, but I hesitated to write them because I wanted to strike a balance writing about marketing, food, and music.

Secondly, music posts were cannibalizing my site’s traffic. I had to ask myself if I was okay with the fact that a blog post about Maroon 5 is on track to be my most viewed article for the year. The hard answer is no.

Finally, I’ve met some (not too many) people who mentioned that they’ve come across my blog somehow. I’m a proud pop music listener, but I also want to project an image that is as professional as possible.  I didn’t want my music posts to overshadow my posts about marketing, which happen to take more time to research and to put together. I knew I had to do something.

A new blog! About music!

The end result  is a new blog. I’m excited to introduce Filthy Pop, my new platform for all my music stuff!

You might be wondering about the name. I wanted the word “pop” there because I mostly write about pop music. And filthy? Well, most people think pop music is kinda trashy, so I wanted to play off that. “Trashy pop” doesn’t really sound good. (And frankly, I don’t write about trashy music…. not 100% of the time, anyway.)

I thought about “Dirty Pop”, but I thought “Filthy Pop” had a better ring to it.

Anyway, when it makes sense, I’ll cross post some stuff from that blog to this one. For the most part though, Filthy Pop will have all my posts about concerts, new music, and music videos.

So what happens to kcclaveria.com now?

I’ll continue to write about social media marketing, advertising, public relations,  food, and Vancouver on this blog. I’m keeping the tag line “Eat, Play, Tweet” because I do believe it still applies.

In the meantime, if you liked my music posts before, please visit my new blog:

Hope to see you there! Let me know what you think of it!

Indoor rock climbing at Cliffhanger Vancouver

I have a mild fear of heights. But then again, who doesn’t, right? When you’re way up there and there’s a possibility that you’ll fall hard to the ground, it’s normal to be afraid.

I’d try anything once though, so when my friend Teresa wanted to try indoor rock climbing at Cliffhanger in Vancouver, I volunteered to go with her.

Cliffhanger is located near the Main Street Skytrain station. The walk towards the gym isn’t long, but it’s at a semi-secluded area.

When we first came in, we took the “Intro to Climbing” course. For two hours, we learned the absolute basics — knots, belaying, and safety precautions. Our fee also covered our equipment, which included a pair of tight shoes. (For safety, your toes need to be touching the very front of the shoes; no space allowed!)

One of the (few) disadvantages of being done with my undergrad degree is that I don’t have access to the SFU gym anymore.

Actually, that’s probably not entirely true — according to the SFU Alumni website, I can continue to access the SFU gym. But whether or not I want to go all the way to SFU Burnaby just to workout is another issue.

So, yes, I’m on the look out for my next gym. Working out is one of my fave activities, so choosing my gym is a task I take very seriously.

What the ideal gym looks like

Ideally, these are the characteristics of my next gym:

  • Affordable. Because I’m a starving new grad. Note that by affordable, I don’t mean cheap.
  • Convenient location. I don’t drive yet, so the gym needs to be near a Skytrain station. Preferably, it’ll be in Vancouver or near the Metrotown area in Burnaby.
  • Decent facilities. Because having a good workout is a must.
  • Classes. Eventually, I want to try fitness classes such as martial arts or even go back to doing pilates. I can’t afford these classes right now, but it would be great if these are available so I can sign up when I can finally afford them.
  • Nice to have: a towel service. Also, rentable lockers. Both of these were available at SFU Recreation and they made going to the gym a lot easier.
  • Optional: Eye candies. Just because. I mean, why not, right?

Recommendations?

Currently, I’m looking at the usual suspects — Fitness World, community centres, etc. But I’m wondering if there are other ones I’m missing.

Any suggestions? Leave a comment or tweet me. A big thanks for all the leads!

One of the cool things about taking a Communication minor at SFU is that I get to learn about interesting stuff. Don’t get me wrong — marketing and business concepts can be interesting, but they can also be draining and stale sometimes.

Right now, I’m taking one of my fave Communication classes ever! CMNS 321 is about popular music, and I totally love it. The course starts a little heavy (featuring concepts and readings from Adorno), but it eventually gets fun, especially once it gets to globalization, authenticity, and politics. Music is such a fascinating thing!
